Hello My Name Is...
Hello, my name is Ms. Kelleher, welcome to 5K! Here in fifth grade we have high expectations for students. We expect students to try their best always, give it 100% effort even if it is challenging, be positive, treat other peers respectfully, and always show HEART.
We learn a lot in fifth grade:
- In math, we expand our multiplication skills, learn long division, we are introduced to exponents and negative and positive integers. We continue to practice our work with fractions, where we multiply, divide, add and subtract them.
- In reading, we will read tall tales, biographies, excerpts of novels; we will explore various comprehension skills and strategies such as cause and effect and theme.
- In writing, we will become "Empowered Writers" by developing our narrative and expository writing skills. We will use elaborative detail to describe amusement parks, famous magicians, parts of the body, forms of transportation, and much more!
- In Science/Social Studies we will discover through projects and research information about explorers, maps, history, time periods, water cycle, conservation, rocks and minerals, and more!
Fifth grade is a very important year...it is the year that you show all of Franklin Avenue School how you can be role models as you get ready for your transition to middle school. We expect a lot from fifth graders, but we know you're all up for the challenge!
Families and parents, in addition to my regular email updates on Fridays, please feel free to contact me with any questions you have about expectations or assignments. You can reach me by email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by phone at 572-6424. I look forward to working with all of you this year!
